Right at the base of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, Plage Passable is a small but perfect beach composed of sand and small stones. Originally called Letetia beach, it was developed to please the celebrated guests of the Grand Hotel who took the waters here early in the 20th century.
Now this five-star hotel has a swimming pool but when it was built in 1908 Passable was the closest beach. Facing west, the view of Villefranche bay is magnificent especially at sunset. The protected cove has calm waters and a shallow drop-off but there have been serious issues with water cleanliness at this beach primarily because of the boats docked in Villefranche bay. For up-to-date information see baignades.sante.gouv.fr/
The beach has a public and private portion. The public sector is equipped with outdoor showers and the private section is managed by the private beach-restaurant Passable Plage, open March to September for lunch.
Access
Passable beach is comparatively easy to access. Ligne d'Azur runs bus 81 from Nice to Menton which stops at a number of places in Cap Ferrat. The closest stop to the beach is "Passable". For drivers, there's a small parking lot near the beach. On foot, Plage Passable is right on the Cap Ferrat coastal walk.
